Blue Sky Building Solutions: for people who want a more energy efficient property but don’t know where to start
The Future. We are all facing a future where our traditional fossil fuels are growing increasingly scarce and increasingly expensive.
Blue Sky Building Solutions can help you take steps now, to design and develop efficiency measures into your property that will reduce energy consumption and in the long run, save money and add value.
What is a future proof property? A future proof property is a cleaner, greener one.
- The first principle is to reduce a property’s energy demand as much as possible- through high levels of insulation, and low energy appliances and user patterns (like turning your thermostat down by one degree).
- Next, it is possible to install systems that replace or reduce demand for fossil fuels to generate space heating and hot water (i.e. solar/ heat pump systems coupled with high efficiency hot water stores).
- Finally, micro generation systems can be installed to produce electricity to power a property and even sell energy back to the national grid.
The UK government is firmly committed to reducing the carbon emissions of existing and new housing stock. It is the biggest single change in British housing policy since the 1960s. With the introduction of The Code For Sustainable Homes, it is aiming to reduce new build carbon emissions by 20% by the end of 2010. All new builds will be zero carbon by 2016.
What will we do? Blue Sky Building Solutions will provide a totally impartial Property Energy Survey. The survey will show clearly how energy efficient a building is. It then highlights the most cost effective measures to make the property more efficient and reduce its demand for conventional fossil fuels.
Blue Sky Building Solutions can carry out/ manage the installation of whatever improvements are best for the property: Whether it is to increase the insulation, install a high efficiency gas system, solar hot water heating system, or produce electricity with micro generation.
Is creating a future proof home expensive? Creating an energy efficient home can be expensive, however, Blue Sky Building Solutions will advise on what government grants are available and how to claim them in order to reduce the initial costs.
Millions of pounds of government money has already been released for improvements to the existing housing stock. Schemes so far predominantly focus on increasing buildings’ insulation and for some renewable energy projects.
It is clear that the government will be releasing hundreds of millions more pounds to encourage further improvements to existing housing in the UK.
An example of this is the proposed Feed In Tariffs due to role out in April 2010.
Currently there are grants of up to £2400 available per home, depending upon what measures are installed.
Can a green property be achieved in stages? If you are not ready to fully commit to a renewable system or micro generation at this stage, it is still possible to future proof a property by insulating and installing appliances and heating systems that can be used in conjunction with renewable systems in the future.
A future proof, energy efficient house does not need to be designed by a high-price architect with an end result that looks like an earth-walled mole hill or an impractical, glass cube monstrosity. BlueSky Building Solutions are committed to building/ improving real homes that are highly insulated and make most of the natural energy/ heat resources available.
Blue Sky Building Solutions provide expert surveys for individual systems or whole buildings to ensure that any system is appropriate for a property and, if so, correctly specified and sited.
If required, as qualified installers, Blue Sky Building Solutions will see any project through from the initial enquiry, survey, design and installation to commissioning.
